Carriages Await Train at Depot, Circa 1911

Passenger trains brought summer guests and traveling salesmen seeking relaxation, adventure, or business opportunities while they stayed at local boarding houses and hotels. As Waynesville’s transportation epicenter, Frog Level Depot served not only as a point of entry and departure for business leaders, summer vacationers, soldiers, and local citizens, but was a hotbed of activity for bringing in new ideas and culture to what became a progressive town in the mountains.
